The Waynesburg – Franklin Twp Volunteer Fire Company responded to a motor vehicle crash on Interstate 79 at the 13.5 mile marker. Heavy fire conditions were encountered upon arrival. The Fire Company used foam to extinguish the fire. As a result of the crash Interstate 79 Southbound was closed for many hours to investigate the crash remove the vehicles involved and repair the roadway. There were two fatalities in this crash and another was injured. The Fire Company was on scene at this crash for over 7 hours. During this time we were also dispatched for another crash on Route 19 South. This crash involved a tractor trailer hauling a flammable liquid that had rolled over. The driver was injured and transported to the hospital by EMS Southwest. The Fire Company was on scene for close to 12 hours assisting the clean up contractors and Pennsylvania State Police with the clean up.
