Fire Company Trains With New Equipment
Tuesday, September 9, 2008
-
At Barton's Junk Yard, the Fire Company was able to see first hand how to new best utilize some new rescue equipment that was purchased recently.  Two sets of struts were purchased.  This equipment will allow us to quickly stabilize vehicles that were involved in crashes.  This equipment was purchased from Fire Station Resources.

In addition, the Fire Company got to practice using new Crash Software that quickly allows the rescuers to identify danger zones that a rescuer needs to know when attempting to extricate victims from crashes.

February 6, 2008 - Murtha Announces Local Fire Department and EMS Grants (WASHINGTON, D.C.) -- Congressman John P. Murtha announced today that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has released Assistance to Firefighters Grants to local fire department and EMS organizations. “Nearly 75 percent of our nations 35,000 local fire agencies are volunteer,” commented Murtha. “Their jobs are made more difficult by shrinking budgets that don’t have the flexibility for funding equipment, training or new vehicles. These grants help our firefighters respond safely and efficiently, so that they can do a better job protecting our communities.” These competitive grants are provided to fire departments and nonaffiliated EMS organizations to enhance first responders’ ability to protect the health and safety of the public and that of first-responder personnel. Since 2004, Assistance to Firefighters Grants has provided a total of almost $2.2 billion to first-responder organizations to purchase response equipment, personal protective equipment, and vehicles. Greene County Waynesburg - Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Co. $188,813 (Operations & Safety)
